The Grocery Store Habit That Changed My Health

One simple habit — reading the ingredient list — made healthy shopping easier than any diet rule ever did.

The Grocery Store Habit That Changed My Health

If you've ever stood in the grocery store comparing products and wondering which one is healthier, you're not alone.

One of the first habits I developed when I started taking my health seriously was reading ingredient labels. Over time, my approach became much simpler.

Today, I focus on one thing first:

The ingredient list.

My rule is simple:

Does this look like real food?

If the ingredient list is packed with things I can't pronounce or don't recognize, I usually put it back. If the ingredients are simple and recognizable, that's often a good sign.

Yes, I Eat Chips

Healthy eating doesn't mean eliminating foods you enjoy.

One of my favorite snacks is Jackson's Sweet Potato Chips. The ingredients are simple:

  • Sweet potatoes
  • Avocado oil
  • Sea salt

Another favorite is Boulder Canyon Chips:

  • Potatoes
  • Avocado oil
  • Sea salt

Could I eat vegetables instead? Sure.

But healthy living isn't about perfection. It's about building habits you can maintain.

What I Look For

When shopping, I try to choose foods that are:

  • Made with recognizable ingredients
  • Closer to their natural form
  • Lower in unnecessary additives
  • Easy to fit into everyday life

Healthy people snack too. The difference is learning to make intentional choices.

Instead of giving up foods you love, find cleaner versions whenever possible.

Final Thoughts

Healthy eating doesn't have to be complicated.

Start by turning over the package and reading the ingredients.

Choose foods that are simple whenever possible, and remember: you don't have to stop eating the foods you love. Sometimes all it takes is finding a better version.

Feel Better. Move Better. Be Better.
